First Fall Heatwave To Hit Metro Southern California This Next Week; Heat Alerts Are Pending

A ridge building into the area will reintroduce the heat across Southern California after the weekend, which was forecast here on September 12th.  Triple digits are expected in spots with a weak offshore flow.  Read on for details.

Astronomical Fall starts on September 22nd.  However, I do not use astronomical seasons in weather.  Meteorological Fall started on September 1st.  This month so far is below average in temperatures.  The coming heatwave will be semi-prolonged and will put the month to average or just above it.  Arizona had thunderstorms yesterday due to a tropical moisture intrusion out of Mexico.  We have remained dry due to the trough that has given us below average temperatures for this time of year, giving more of an onshore flow.

But, after the weekend we start to warm-up once again.  Temperatures by mid-week with a light offshore flow will be in the triple digits in the metros with warm temperatures extending all the way to the beaches.  Could see some mid-90s just a few miles from the beaches due to the offshore flow.

This will not be a strong Santa Ana (offshore wind) event and most will barely notice it.  Fire risks however will be elevated for the entire week under dry/hot conditions and this will not have humidity unless you are along the coast where the water is still warmer than normal.

The October 2018 forecast will be released in just over 10 days.
