June went pretty much as expected so what will July hold? Read on for details …
July 2020 will have the same temperatures as June. In Bakersfield and the Low Desert we will see heatwave temperatures. In the metros and mountain areas we will see average to above average temperatures. The monsoon season in Arizona seems to be getting disrupted by the upper level jet in the Northern USA. It needs to push further north and weaken fora four corners ridge to develop. Putting this into perspective on-top of the lack of hurricanes developing west of Mexico in the Eastern Pacific Basin and you have a recipe for below average monsoon flow across the region.
Sure, in mid-July we will see the ridge nominally try to develop over the four corners, and the upper level jet stream will move it around, which can allow for short duration moisture intrusions out from Mexico and Arizona. That cannot be predicted by details so it will be worked on as the days come into play.
So really that is it… July should be a normal July here. There is a hint that the monsoon will be a later show, much like last year.
