6:00pm Rapid Update – Pacific Storm Andreas

This doesn’t feel much like a Pacific Storm, right?  I mean the humidity along with the temperatures today was downright uncomfortable.  Currently, there are two alerts on the site.  The Severe Thunderstorm Watch covers the Imperial and Riverside Desert regions.

A supercell moving through Western Imperial County will continue northward through this evening into the Salton Sea area … however this is not the main focus.  This would be considered the appetizer to overnight tonight into Thursday morning when the upper level divergence and instability lines up perfectly and produces a light show across the watch box … with that would include rapid large hail dynamics developing overnight … damaging wind potential, heavy downpours, and even the risk of isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

One model wants to give LA other chance overnight and develop a band of thunderstorms.  It’ll be watched but it isn’t the preferred solution given the OC/LA/VT area remains under a dryslot all night.  I just don’t see much of a moisture column to support it but will watch it anyhow.

Additional alerts are expected across the Eastern San Bernardino Deserts if the flow continues … which would include the Needles, CA forecast areas.
