Good afternoon members,
Currently we are seeing thunderstorms in the watch boxes across the Kern/SLO/SBA/LA County areas … and the watches will continue through this evening. The severe watch will also continue with increasing activity likely there into the evening/night hours.
One thing we are watching carefully is what happened last night. Last night, the dryslot’s north end snuck south a bit and popped stray thunderstorms off in the Northern OC and Central LA Basin. This sector so to speak is in the Inland Empire … and with a southerly flow we have to watch the Cajon Pass/Devore/Fontana convergence zone because with a southerly flow in the area, orographic enhancement would bring a chance of storm activity in those areas. I haven’t finalized this decision but I am putting it out there that the dynamics are there so if it happens don’t be surprised …
What I do know is a divergent band like last night will set up … where … toss up and this could be along the mountain zones northward from Big Bear into Lucerne Valley … or east into the Eastern Deserts. Very tricky attm but the outline is on the map above.
