Date:  1/26/16 at 11:00am PT

Forecast: The pattern is going to become favorable for the next named storm system into Southern California sometime this weekend … targeting around Sunday at the moment.

The storm dynamics looks to be capable of producing areas of metro flooding, heavy mountain/snow blizzard conditions, rough seas, slightly lower snow levels than the previous system, gusty winds in all areas, and a chance of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and an elevated tornado risk.

This is subject to change but this is what I have for you at the moment.  The system has a powerful surface low, even more powerful and closer than the storm earlier this month that produced tornadoes near and on the coast.

This system would impact SLO first and then head down through San Diego, much like the last one.

The directional shear is indicating that supercells being discrete ahead and along the front are also likely so we may be looking at an increased tornado risk again.

Snow level after the front with precipitation could be below 4,000 FT so we’re watching the passes right now.

We are still five whole days out from the system’s impact so things could change … get weaker … get worse … or remain the same as forecast now and you’ll be further notified.

For now, expect this system impact on Sunday. Maximum category in the center of the system will be between a three and a five.  Stay tuned …

10 mile rule:  These alerts issued on this site means that within your zone and 10 miles from you will see the event forecast for.  You may or may not see the event but it means you are in the zone or 10 miles from where someone will.
