Southern California Weather Force has issued a Severe Weather Statement effective Thursday, September 4th, 2025, for the following zones;

Issued Zones: Imperial County … Riverside County Mountains and Deserts … San Diego Mountains … Eastern San Bernardino Deserts, Needles …

Date Issued: September 3rd, 2025 at 12:10pm PDT

Discussion:  Hurricane Lorena is approaching for a landfall across Baja, Mexico, and it will rapidly move toward Southern Arizona by Friday.  With that being said, on the northwest quadrant of the system, strong upper-level divergence (lift) will be present, along with a gulf surge of moisture.  This will produce severe thunderstorm development across the Baja, Mexico Spine, which would also produce these along the Riverside and San Diego Mountains.  With outflow to the northeast, convergence zones setting up over the Eastern Riverside Deserts to Imperial County will also be in play.  Severe Thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, large hail, and flooding will be possible, with the most concentration being in Imperial County on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Residence in the statement area should prepare for severe weather …

A Severe Weather Statement is issued second in line to an upgraded final watch, usually issued 12 to 24 hours before the final alert is issued.  A Severe Weather Statement means that SCWF is monitoring the statement area for an upgrade to Severe Thunderstorm Watch, where Damaging Winds, Large Hail, and Flooding is all possible.  Alerts at Southern California Weather Force are private, issued ahead of time to the public by SCWF as the lead-time is extremely important to you.
