Issued Zones: All forecast area …
Site: SouthernCaliforniaWeatherForce.com has updated a Storm Statement effective now for Sunday and Monday …
Date: 1/2/16 at 6:00am PT
Forecast: The first system is going to be a tricky one as it will not be along the main jet stream the second storm behind it is. This system will move into the region on Sunday evening and lasting into the night through Monday morning.
One model wants this directly into the forecast area west of Ventura, but I’m going to lean a bit southward with it.
As the system cuts off from the main jet, the surface low will sag southward and this could bring in slightly drier air for the LA/OC/IE/SD zones and if it does this … less precipitation would fall with it … but on the contrary if our Model 1E-HR is correct … upper lift within the northeast section of the storm could spark ‘surprise’ heavier showers with this event for the LA/OC/IE areas.
The upper divergent section however would be over the Vandenberg Air Force Base zones, north to the SLO/KERN areas and as far east as the city of Ventura. Such a system would favor these areas more than the metros of LA/OC/IE/SD. The system would hit Northern Baja more so and this would transfer energy up the northeast side into the Colorado River Valley cities on Monday, east into Arizona.
Since this is a cutoff it could wobble either way and impact this forecast. However right now this is about what I’m going with and the final forecast for this will be out on Monday between 11am and 12pm.
Strong winds will develop on Sunday into Sunday night in the Santa Barbara County areas with a strong southeast flow into the surface low west of Central/Northern California. These winds will also blow in the Kern Mountain zones, including the Gorman Pass areas and may come through into Bakersfield as well. Winds will also be felt in the city of Ventura off the ocean.
Advisories will be needed for these zones. Will go ahead and outline the SLO County regions as well in that advisory.
The current precipitation forecast for later Sunday into Monday is located in the member section for precipitation. Click Here To Enter Member Section
Snow levels will be calculated in a day and given as advisories for any locations needed.
The second system details will be given around the same time the first one will be … as they are very close to each other. Second system is along the main jet stream so it’ll be easier to time …
10 mile rule: These alerts issued on this site means that within your zone and 10 miles from you will see the event forecast for. You may or may not see the event but it means you are in the zone or 10 miles from where someone will.
