Tsunami Advisory
[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Issued Zones: All bight and coastal zones of Southern California …
Site: SouthernCaliforniaWeatherForce.com has issued a Tsunami Advisory effective now for between 4:30am and 10:00am Thursday morning …
Date: 9/16/15 at 6:20pm PT
Forecast: A magnitude 8.3 Earthquake struck offshore Chile today and generated a Tsunami that will come into the the bight of Southern California and into the South facing beaches between 4:30am and 5:15am tomorrow morning, Thursday September 17, 2015. Waves generated could move the tide up and could cause problems in the harbors.
Given the wave would be small, uncertainty and sloping of the beach will determine how dangerous it could be. Dangerous rip currents are also going to be possible.
Might not be big at all … but .. as we saw with another quake not long ago in Chile … it hit Ventura pretty hard so coming from that direction has surprises. Expect a rise in wave/tide/current activity which could be dangerous between 4:30 and 5:15 and going on for several hours.
NOTE: Do NOT snuff at 1 foot … – 1 foot waves are not just one wave and it is over. A Tsunami pushes inland for a long time instead of being sucked back out like normal waves do. It’s a longwave pattern, not a short swell. These can damage within the harbors especially with the rise in sea-level over a course of a half hour and then swell back down only to do it again and again for several hours.
This will expire at 10am … wave/rip/current/tide activity hitting by 4:30 or 5am will linger for several hours …
START TIMES FOR 9/17/2015
SAN DIEGO – 4:41AM
NEWPORT BEACH – 4:46 AM.
LOS ANGELES HARBOR – 4:47 AM.
SANTA BARBARA / VENTURA – 5:06 AM.

10 mile rule: These alerts issued on this site means that within your zone and 10 miles from you will see the event forecast for. You may or may not see the event but it means you are in the zone or 10 miles from where someone will.
