Hurricane John: Elevated Heat And Monsoon Moisture To Return This Week Across Southern California

The first two days of the week will be the hottest.  We then have monsoon moisture returning by mid-week with upcoming Hurricane John, including elevated surf conditions.  SCWF High Heat Warnings are active now.  Get all the details by reading on …

Been awhile since I posted.  Last post was the August 2018 forecast and so far it looks on track.  Several tropical disturbances down in the Eastern Pacific are moving through that basin and will contribute to this week’s weather projections.  As of now it stands a ridge building in will up the temps on Monday and Tuesday with a dry heat while Wednesday starts the return of the hot/humid conditions.

With these tropical disturbances will provide a kink in the monsoon ridge and thus open the door for a southeasterly flow once again across Southern California.  This will return the shower and thunderstorm activity to the region.  Some of these will drift west into the inland valleys and even to the coast at times.

Given the strong southeast push into the region with this monsoon moisture, it is conceivable that we would get storms popping up as far as Santa Barbara, Kern, and Ventura County higher elevations .. areas that have lacked monsoon moisture thus far this summer.

This will all be thanks to future Hurricane John as it passes to our south.

Elevated surf is expected by end week with a sharp southerly swell.  Expect updates.

Long range on my numbers continue to indicate cooling for August by mid-month, say maybe around the 15th.  August 2018’s forecast will remain as projected.
