Thunderstorm Watch Embedded Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Issued Zones:  Kern County …

Site:  Southern California Weather Force has issued a Thunderstorm Watch embedded Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective this afternoon/evening …

Date:  6/5/20 at 10:25am PT

Forecast: An upper level low south of the region will bring an increase in instability across Kern County today.  What you see in the alert image above is the Southern California Weather Force Monsoon Forecast Model, which will seem to work with today’s forecast.

Given this, the Severe Thunderstorm Watch zone is small and does match what I issued the other day in the Severe Weather Statement (Click Here) alert for the Pine Mountain Club zones.  Damaging winds and large hail will be likely today along Mil Potrero Highway in the PMC zones today, extending east to the Gorman areas.

Other areas will be the Kern Desert/Mountain zones and Tehachapi locations for a chance of thunderstorms.  Bakersfield will be looking at the chance as well with storms backing in off the Tehachapi Mountains and any leakage will be in that valley.  I do not expect much further west of a thunderstorm watch than along I-5 –

NOTE: I am NOT allowing new sign-ups paying for the SCWF alert system at this time. I am redoing the system over the Summer and offering free service till October 1st. This is because this Summer is either close… or keep open come the next storm season due to a post COVID-19 economy.
