Powerful Inside Slider Storm System To Generate Damaging Santa Ana Winds Around January 18th to 20th; Then A Storm Window Opens

0Shares

A powerful inside slider moving out of Nevada on January 18th will impact Southern California between then and the 20th.  This will bring the year’s strongest Santa Ana Wind Event in a north wind fashion.  Systems like this can produce some precipitation as well, in what is typically called a wet Santa Ana Wind.  These patterns however produce a fine gradient with areas east of Los Angeles having higher precipitation chances than areas in say Ventura.  Such patterns also put Arizona at ground zero for rain, thunderstorms, and mountain snow.

But, before that, we will have another moderate Santa Ana Wind, similar to today.  Given what I see, as per my January 2021 forecast (Click here), we are on track to open the storm window after this inside slider pushes east.  Similar to last month, a storm system was dragged by the previous cutoff into our area.  Confidence is gaining that the storm window will indeed open up again during the last 10 days of this month.

One thing to NOTE about this coming inside slider wind event is that the jet stream is so strong that it will affect the entire Los Angeles Basin areas as well, something extremely rare as Santa Ana Winds do not typically do so.
