A PDS Santa Ana Wind Warning is issued when strong winds are expected out of the northerly direction above a level 6 in the prone zones.  This northerly wind is due to upper support from a storm missing to the northeast.  One thing to note is this event may be the strongest event we’ve had this season thus far, which means the San Gabriel Valley will see the strong, possibly damaging winds along the 210.  80% of Orange County is in level 6, which is the strongest in quite some time.  Ontario International Airport also has high values even on the west runway so this means that plans landing will have a tough time, thus may be diverted to Las Vegas or Phoenix.

STORM PATTERN: We did see such events like this in October and November this season.  Each event was followed by a storm pattern.  This is not always the case, however, this year’s pattern has been just that.   Long periods of 3-4 weeks without a storm, and a strong Santa Ana Wind Event just before one.  The storm pattern coming up is going to center the first week of March as a system missing on February 28th would pull in the system a few days later.

I control 10 counties in Southern California so there is a lot to say for various areas. The best I can do is let the images below speak for themselves. They are separated into 1 row of six. Four zones that I control. If you are in Southern California, you are in one of these. Each is identical so zone 1 is the same on all the rows and so on.  Image 5 is Cajon Pass, and Image 6 is the SCV area.  Here is the key to the rows below.  They are extremely detailed.
