Monsoon Moisture Streaming Across Southern California All Weekend, Alerts Issued In Spots Through Monday

In addition to the high heat, the high heat will work with the monsoon moisture to cause a risk of showers or thunderstorms anywhere in the forecast area, but lets concentrate on the current atmosphere today through Sunday so read on for details.

A weather advisory is in effect for area in Los Angeles north and westward through today and tonight as several impulse rotating around the ridge of high pressure centered above the Colorado River Valley moves on through.  There are three areas in progress at the current time, one of those crossing the Santa Barbara / San Luis Obispo County area already.  The second event is the daytime heating as the mid-level clouds move off.  Instability will then develop and we will see the shower/thunderstorm activity in the mountain and desert areas.  Advisories and Watches are out here at Southern California Weather Force.  I do not think the daytime activity will affect the metros, however the thunderstorm watch was also issued for areas near Hemet, Banning, Yucaipa or anywhere close-by due to the southeast flow we have.  These will not make it west of Riverside due to the unfavorable flow, but will make a run in the areas I mentioned.

The third event is the impulse arriving overnight tonight.  This should arrive over parts of the LA County zones and impact the Ventura, Santa Barbara, Kern, and San Luis Obispo County areas through Sunday morning as well.  This will be stronger than what is moving across the SBA/SLO County areas now and the elevated instability is more than enough for thunderstorms to be likely.  Some of these storms will be on the drier side so don’t expect a lot of rainfall from the third impulse event.  We could see isolated flooding in some stronger cells for the daytime events through.

San Diego/OC … you will be left out till the end of the event near Monday when the flow switches almost due east so any activity for you will have to wait …

The following alerts are in effect through the weekend …
Weather Advisory for Western half of LA County … LA Desert … Kern, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara County …
